BAMPFA
Five Tables of Elevated Emotional States
Drop by our art study centers on Free First Thursdays and get an up-close view of some of the treasures of the BAMPFA collections, laid out on the five tables in the seminar area. Among the works on view this session: film stills from the silent Expressionist masterpiece The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari; Edvard Munch’s claustrophobic Self-Portrait in 1895; Margo Humphrey’s vivid lithograph Crying ain’t gonna help none, baby; the progress of Hogarth’s young rake from miser’s son to spendthrift playboy to Bedlam inmate; the ecstasy of saints by Dürer and Ribera; and a selection of hells from a set of ten Chinese Buddhist hell scrolls. Space is limited, so there could be a short wait.
