Performance: Gautam Tejas Ganeshan
Following Robert Del Bontà’s lecture on ragamalas in Divine Visions, Earthly Pleasures, enjoy a performance by Gautam Tejas Ganeshan, a passionate singer who applies his knowledge of Indian carnatic music to the creation of new music. Although his performances reflect a traditional aesthetic, they express immediacy more than nostalgia. For this special performance, Ganeshan is joined by a small ensemble.
Ganeshan has performed widely in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2004, including at SFMOMA, SFJAZZ, the Asian Art Museum, Hertz Hall at UC Berkeley. He has given workshops at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Stanford Jazz Workshop, as well as guest lectures for music courses at UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz. He is the founder and director of the Sangati Center, a nonprofit chamber music concert series that has hosted more than 400 public chamber concerts in San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley since 2006, earning support from the National Endowment for the Arts, Alliance for California Traditional Arts, and others.
