Artists’ Conversation with Tyler Cross and Kyle Lypka, Vincent Fecteau, and Léonie Guyer

In a discussion moderated by BAMPFA Senior Curator Anthony Graham, four artists featured in the exhibition discuss ways their work variously represents, reshapes, and reimagines familiar objects.

About the Artists

CrossLypka is the collaborative practice of Oakland-based artists Tyler Cross and Kyle Lypka, who have been working together in ceramics for over a decade. Their sculptural practice is rooted in a deep engagement with form, materiality, and collaboration, exploring the tension between representation and abstraction.

Vincent Fecteau is best known for his small-scale abstract sculptures meticulously made by hand using papier-mâché, plaster, and clay, as well as commonplace items such as rubber bands, seashells, and string. Fecteau’s work was featured in the 2002 and 2012 Whitney Biennials, and he received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2016.

Léonie Guyer makes paintings, drawings, site-based work, prints, and artist’s books. Her post-minimalist abstract work is characterized by idiosyncratic shapes that are deployed in a variety of spaces. Guyer is a 2024 Guggenheim Fellow.
