San Francisco artist Catherine Sherman leads community quilt projects throughout the Bay Area and explores the narrative possibilities of quilts through such series as Tree of Life and Beyond Red, White, and Blue.
The artist known as Rosie Lee Tompkins (whose real name was Effie Mae Howard) used a combination of traditional patterns, embroidered words, printed images, and her favorite fabrics—including velvet, artificial fur, and glittery material—to make her distinctive quilts. After exploring her quilts in the galleries, make paper and cloth mosaics inspired by her artworks. Workshop led by Catherine Sherman.
About Gallery + Studio
