The Choreography of Environments: How the Anna and Lawrence Halprin Home Transformed Contemporary Dance and Urban Design with Janice Ross

Complementing the design components of Object Oriented, Janice Ross introduces her new book, The Choreography of Environments, which explores the Kentfield home and gardens of Anna and Lawrence Halprin as the template for their innovations in dance and urban design. She demonstrates how ordinary objects from a private residence can become lenses for viewing art innovation.

Ross, who received her BA from UC Berkeley, is Professor Emerita of Dance Studies in the Theatre and Performance Studies Department, Stanford University, and the recipient of multiple awards, including Guggenheim and Fulbright Fellowships and Stanford’s Dean’s Award for Distinguished Teaching. She is also the author of Anna Halprin’s acclaimed biography, Anna Halprin: Experience as Dance.

The program will be followed by a book signing.
