Workshop led byJill McLennan documents her constantly changing urban environment in paintings and mixed-media artworks that explore history, industry, and urban nature, imbued with a hopeful, futuristic vision. Among her public art projects is Emeryville Perspectives, a large-scale series of industrial steel panels depicting flora and fauna of the Emeryville shoreline. She is the director of JMAC: Jill McLennan Arts & Community and a member of the artist-run Mercury 20 Gallery in Oakland.
This two-part workshop integrates an interactive gallery tour with a related art project. Sign up in the Art Lab ten minutes ahead of the session, which begins with a short gallery tour at 11:30 AM.
It is very unusual to see an actual piece of architecture displayed as an object in a museum gallery, but the twenty-foot-long carving Proscenium by Sargent Claude Johnson is just that. Originally made for an auditorium near the UC Berkeley campus, it features animals, birds, musical notes and instruments, and theatrical masks. In this workshop, explore ideas for architectural designs by making a blueprint plan on graph paper and then a three-dimensional model of your idea.
