In Alberto Sordi and Vitti’s very funny final collaboration, they play a seemingly contented long-married couple. Fabio (Sordi) is a banker, preoccupied with work and football, and more or less unconcerned with the lives of his wife, Livia (Vitti), and their adult daughter. But when a detective hired to follow a neighbor accidentally trails Livia instead, complications and surprises ensue. As Livia, Vitti is able to gradually and hilariously reveal a multifaceted character who defies expectations at every turn, as Fabio’s world is turned upside down.
