Jon Wengström’s Lecture on Victor Sjöström

Free admission. Tickets available at the admissions desk beginning at 3 PM.

  • Illustrated Lecture

Jon Wengström is Senior Curator of the Archival Film Collections at the Swedish Film Institute, Stockholm, and an expert on Swedish silent cinema. He received the 2018 San Francisco Silent Film Festival Award on behalf of the Swedish Film Institute.

Join us for a ninety-minute illustrated lecture that puts Victor Sjöström and his films into context. Film archivist Jon Wengström, a leading authority on Swedish silent cinema and Sjöström in particular, discusses Sjöström’s career—both as a director and as an actor. Several films made in the mid-1910s (Ingeborg Holm, The Price of Betrayal, A Man There Was) will be shown in digital excerpts. Additional clips, including the following rare 35mm prints and fragments as noted below, will also be presented.
