Mapping Utopias

What does utopia mean to you? Is it a distant dream, or something that already exists in our everyday lives? This workshop, led by educator, anthropologist, and community organizer Isa Prieto, invites participants to explore the idea of utopianism through a discussion and creative exercise. We will share where we experience belonging, care, joy, and possibility and, through a collective mapmaking activity, situate the fragments of utopia that already live in our neighborhoods. This workshop offers an opportunity to brainstorm how to strengthen and expand everyday utopian spaces and learn about the power of imagination as a tool for change.

Isa Prieto is an educator, anthropologist, and community organizer who grew up in and researched intentional communities. They create social spaces where people can critically engage with themselves and the world around them and imagine alternative futures.
