Note: While previously scheduled to be in person, Rithy Panh will not be appearing for this screening due to unforeseen circumstances.

Rithy Panh’s newest narrative—a Cannes Film Festival world premiere—may be anchored in his career-long exploration of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge regime, but it’s also a warning call to contemporary viewers on how governments use media to manipulate (or simply hide) the truth. In 1978 three French journalists travel to Cambodia to meet with Pol Pot, but they soon discover a dangerous gap between ideology and reality. “The film reminds us that the absence of information, disinformation and manipulation of information—which are strategies for certain governments—constitute a danger,” noted Panh. “A chilling historical drama rendered with impeccable sleight of hand” (Variety).
