The UC Berkeley Department of German and BAMPFA are pleased to host Stefanie Schulte Strathaus’s Mosse Lecture. She will speak about the international collaborations she is involved with through her position as Artistic Director of the Arsenal Filminstitut in Berlin and across a career that has been devoted to film curation, restoration projects, and developing partnerships with film communities in Egypt and Nigeria. Schulte Strathaus served on the selection committee of the Berlinale Forum and was the Founding Director of the Berlinale section Forum Expanded. Two of her signature accomplishments are the development of the Living Archive project at Arsenal Filminstitut and launching the biennial festival Archival Assembly.
This annual lecture is generously supported by the Mosse Foundation and reflects the foundation’s mission to promote cultural exchange and political engagement. The Mosse Lectures were originally founded in 1997 at Humboldt University in Berlin to commemorate the history of the Mosse family, their patronage of the arts, and their contributions to intellectual life through the German-Jewish publishing house run by Rudolf Mosse and the newspaper Berliner Tageblatt.
