Roundtable Reading / The Long Way Around by Anne Nesbet

Recommended for ages 7 and up with accompanying adult(s).

At Roundtable Reading, young readers read aloud to one another from the opening pages of a good book. Children who participate will receive a copy of the book to continue reading at home. No advance sign-up needed; just show up promptly at 2:30 PM ready to read!

Reading led by Rachel Budge, librarian, Elmwood Elementary School, Berkeley.

During a backpacking trip with their parents in the California mountains, cousins Owen, Vivian, and Amy are allowed to camp for one night all on their own. But when a massive earthquake blocks their return path, they are truly separated from their parents, and the only way home takes them through a wilderness filled with fierce animals, raging rivers, unstable weather, and high passes.
