Ann Block, Will Durst, Maria Isaacs, Liane Hielscher,
An introverted painter embraces her solitude amidst the coastal Pacifica fog—until an outgoing comedian and his girlfriend move in next door—in this likably low-key relationship drama, which earned Jerry Ross Barrish praise as an “American Rohmer” and comparisons to Alain Tanner during its original Berlin Film Festival run. Certainly, the film’s measured pace and natural dialogue marks it as refreshingly unlike anything from 1980s Hollywood, so it’s little surprise it had more admirers in Europe. Will Durst costars in a rare dramatic appearance, though the real eye-catchers are the film’s Pacifica and Moss Beach locales.
