Steffani Jemison and Leslie Cuyjet on Maren Hassinger and Senga Nengudi

Artist Steffani Jemison and choreographer Leslie Cuyjet perform a collaborative piece that reflects on the dynamic artistic relationship between Maren Hassinger and Senga Nengudi. Performing alongside projections of archival images depicting Hassinger and Nengudi’s collaborations, Jemison and Cuyjet improvise together with text, dance, and thread. The performance meditates on the intense intimacy and attunement involved in longstanding artistic collaborations like Hassinger and Nengudi’s, paying homage to the powerful intergenerational legacy of their collective works.
