Spurred on by their “Electronic English” teacher, Fred Isseks, a misfit cohort of 1990s Middletown, New York, high schoolers waged a years-long video investigation into improperly disposed toxic waste at the local dump. Decades later the students and their teacher revisit the twisty, scandalous story, exposing the evergreen fissures between youth and the establishment, as well as the indelible mark educators leave on their students. “Blessed with an amazing amount of 1990s-era VHS material . . . [Teenage Wasteland] delivers a genuinely uplifting portrait of activism under fire” (Nick Schager, The Daily Beast).
