A listless young man searches for a meaning beyond workday drudgery in this charmingly heartfelt, well-received portrait of contemporary youth culture in Tallinn, Estonia. Hapless rappers, stoned philosophers, film nerds, and even skinny-dippers weave in and out of Tallinn’s streets and bars, united only by a sense that life is being lived elsewhere, much more excitingly, or at least warmly. A welcome glimpse into a city and a country rarely featured on the international festival circuit, Rolling Papers was Estonia’s submission to the Academy Awards and is a fitting centerpiece for the Bay Area’s Estonian Days Festival.
