Jeff Griffith-Perham Appointed Associate Film Curator at BAMPFA

(Berkeley, CA) February 17, 2026—The Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive announced today the appointment of Jeff Griffith-Perham as its Associate Film Curator, completing a three-person curatorial team at one of the leading repertory cinematheque programs in the United States. Griffith-Perham’s appointment follows his eight-year tenure at BAMPFA in multiple administrative roles—most recently as Film Exhibition Curatorial Associate, in which capacity he has curated four acclaimed film series at the museum over the past two years.

In his previous role as a curatorial associate, Griffith-Perham worked closely alongside BAMPFA’s film curators to administer the museum’s repertory film program, the largest and most robust of its kind in the Bay Area. As the top administrative staff member within the film curatorial department, Griffith-Perham supervised film booking, editorial oversight, research, and community outreach in support of nearly 350 screenings each year, along with logistical coordination for dozens of visiting filmmakers and scholars. Starting in 2023, Griffith-Perham has also taken on curatorial responsibilities in addition to his administrative portfolio, organizing four critically and commercially successful film series at BAMPFA: Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Cinema, Robert Altman at 100, Frederick Wiseman: America at Work, and Climate Journalism on Screen.

Prior to joining BAMPFA in 2018, Griffith-Perham worked at a range of film organizations and arts presenters—most recently the San Francisco Symphony, where he held multiple roles supporting the museum’s marketing, retail, and fundraising activities. Before moving to the Bay Area in 2010, Griffith-Perham worked in film distribution in New York City, most notably as the marketing and publicity manager for the celebrated arthouse distributor Samuel Goldwyn Films. Griffith-Perham began his film career as the theater manager and projectionist for the Del Mar and the Nickelodeon, two historic commercial movie theaters located in Santa Cruz, California. He holds a degree in Film and Digital Media from the University of California, Santa Cruz.

“I am thrilled to continue exploring the history of world cinema and contemporary film landscape and sharing those findings with the adventurous audiences at BAMPFA.,” said Griffith-Perham. “Working with my colleagues at BAMPFA, an institution with such a rich history and inspiring community around it, has been and continues to be the highlight of my professional career.”

“An avid filmgoer, Jeff lives for cinema and follows a broad range of cinematic styles from silent classics, to avant-garde film, to historical retrospectives, to genre cinema and contemporary releases,” said Susan Oxtoby, BAMPFA’s Director of Film and Senior Film Curator. “During his tenure at BAMPFA, Jeff has worked in many capacities in support of our role as a film archive. He has exceptional knowledge of how to research the best quality prints for exhibition from archives, private collectors, and international print sources, which helps distinguish BAMPFA’s high-level programming.”

“After a national search, Jeff's appointment to Associate Film Curator reflects both his deep commitment to BAMPFA's mission and his proven curatorial vision," said Julie Rodrigues Widholm, BAMPFA's Executive Director. "Over the past eight years, he has been instrumental in strengthening our film program's reputation as one of the nation's premier cinematheques. His ability to create programming that is both intellectually rigorous and accessible to diverse audiences—from our beloved Miyazaki series to his timely work on climate journalism —exemplifies the kind of cultural leadership that makes BAMPFA essential to the Bay Area and beyond. I'm thrilled to see him step fully into this curatorial role.”
