Gallery + Studio: Landscapes Real and Imagined

For ages 6 to 12 with accompanying adult(s)

Jennie Smith, who earned her MFA from UC Berkeley, has an affinity for the ocean and woodless graphite pencils. When she is not drawing in her own studio, she can be found at the de Young museum making art with kids from all over the Bay Area.

Create your own landscape inspired by the paintings of Ming-dynasty artist Chen Hongshou. Using a combination of drawing, watercolor, and stamping, consider real and imaginary landscapes while exploring space and composition, line and color. Then, you’ll have the opportunity to “take us on a walk” through the landscapes you create.

About Gallery + Studio
On the second Saturday of each month, Gallery + Studio connects art viewing with art making in ways that engage both young people and their grown-ups. Each two-part workshop integrates an interactive gallery tour with a related art project, and lasts about an hour and a half. Sign up on site beginning fifteen minutes before the session you wish to attend. Space is limited to twelve kids per session; please arrive promptly to sign up.
