Conversation: Ai Weiwei and Jeff Kelley

Museum Theater

Artist Ai Weiwei and critic and curator Jeff Kelley will discuss a range of issues pertaining to Chinese contemporary art, including the history and condition of artistic freedom in China today. Kelley, who taught theory and criticism for eleven years in UC Berkeley's Department of Art Practice, curated the exhibition Half-Life of a Dream: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Logan Collection, on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art through October 5. Event cosponsored by UC Berkeley's Institute of East Asian Studies.

One of China's most important and influential artists, Ai Weiwei is an artist in residence at UC Berkeley in late September. He is known for his architectural design and his writing as well as his iconoclastic art practice.

Ai Weiwei's residency is supported in part by Cheryl Haines Gallery.
