The Key to Determining Dwarfs, or The Last Travel of Lemuel Gulliver

This documentary on the life and work of Pavel Jurácek draws upon his journal entries and other writings to illuminate not only the tumultuous era of the Prague Spring and the Czech New Wave, but more universally the agonies, challenges, and self-doubts that grip any creative personality. Slovak director Martin Sulík (The Garden) invests the film's reenactments with a convincingly grainy home-movie aesthetic-and solidifies the realism by casting Jurácek's son Marek as Pavel-bringing to life Jurácek's invaluable insights into a world inspired by political reality, then ruined by it.
