Little Women

Recommended for age 7 and over. "The novel about the March family, as originally written by Louisa May Alcott in 1868, has inspired many film and television adaptations. This version is the most famous of them all. The story deals with tomboy Jo March (Katharine Hepburn) and her three sisters-the romantic Meg (Frances Dee), the status-conscious Amy (Joan Bennett), and their little sister, Beth (Jean Parker), living in New England in genteel poverty with their mother (Spring Byington) while their father is at war. Hepburn, fresh from her Oscar-winning performance in Morning Glory, is unforgettable in a role that prefigures Sylvia Scarlett. For George Cukor, this film began the cycle of historical films that he was to direct later at MGM (David Copperfield, Camille), and made excellent use of his sense for detail." -Gerard Dessere Tonight's print is struck from the original negative.
