The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking

Recommended for ages six and up. In this premiere presentation, the pig-tailed, freckle-faced redhead from Astrid Lindgren's beloved books moves into an old house to begin a new life without her parents. An extraordinarily self-reliant child, who is gifted with a quick mind and phenomenal strength, Pippi embarks on a series of adventures to the delight and dismay of the adult world. Pippi finds she is much more interested in attempting to sail the skies in a homemade flying machine than in fitting in at school. She is more interested in finding a way to float a barrel down raging rapids than in learning good manners. She is more interested in outwitting villains more than twice her size than in keeping a spotless house. And she is definitely more interested in helping children in need than in cooperating with those in authority. This colorful, fun-filled film is about the creative self-determined qualities of childhood. A fiery, free-spirited child, Pippi Longstocking astonishes her neighbors with the kinds of wild adventures most kids are desperate to try-and usually never do-and which most grownups have forgotten they ever dreamed of. PFA wishes to thank Gary Shapiro of Longstocking Productions and Columbia Pictures for this benefit screening.
