The Odd Number (La Cifra Impar)

In adapting a short story by Julio Cortázar, Manuel Antin hauntingly evokes the disintegrating reality of a young couple and the obsessive phantom that comes between them. The couple, now living in Paris, receive letters from the husband's mother in Buenos Aires. She talks of another son (a painter, now dead, who was the wife's former lover) as if he were alive-and announces his imminent arrival in Paris. (John King, NFT)
