Peter Pan

Recommendedfor age 4 and older. A perfect blend of fairy-tale magic with Sir JamesBarrie's special kind of whimsy and pathos. Though essentiallytheatrical (deliberately and sincerely so, out of respect to the form ofthe original), this enchanting film also takes advantage of thepossibilities of the cinema (as in the shots of mermaids lolling off theCatalina coastline, or the incredibly lovely shot of the galleon takingoff from the water and flying back to London). Most of all, the filmowed its success to the energetic, sprightly, dancing, joyousperformance by Betty Bronson as Peter. It is a radiant performance, capable of shifting from joy to sadness with the slightest change ofexpression or nuance of body movement. William K. Everson
