Death Race 2000

In California in the year 2000, the President of the United States signals the start of the annual trans-American road race. Glamor, excitement, machismo all go to the winner, the driver who scores the most points - killing pedestrians. (Geriatrics rate higher than the middle-aged, but mothers with small children count highest of all!) Defending his title is Frankenstein (David Carradine), a leather-bound monster of a guy whose face no one has ever seen; in the other corner, Machine Gun Joe Viterbo (Sylvester Stallone). Things get rocky for both contestants when a national resistence movement threatens the bloodsport, but when the President is assassinated, there is only one man who has the national following (glamor, excitement, machismo...) to replace him.
If you thought Red Line 7000 was a cold number, Paul Bartel's futuristic Grand Prix takes place in a deep freeze, a society so emotionally benumbed it kills its own for sport. Death Race 2000, a Roger Corman production, is probably the most hilarious lecture you'll ever attend. Run, don't walk, to catch it.... Oh, but do be careful crossing the street.
