2001 Teddy Bear Film Festival
Ludovic, the sweet young teddy bear who's been the star of the last two Teddy Bear Film Festivals, returns again in Ludovic: Visiting Grandpa (Canada, 2001, 12 mins). Ludovic is delighted to spend a few days at Grandpa's farm but is sad that Grandma is no longer with them. A delightfully snow-filled stop-motion animation, Nanoq (Denmark, 2000, 8 mins) tells the tale of a special relationship between a motherless polar bear cub and an Eskimo boy. In Morris's Disappearing Bag (U.S., 1982, 7 mins), Morris gets a new teddy bear for Christmas, but it's just not as fun as his older siblings' gifts. But what surprise is hiding in the last box under the tree? When Porker and Curlytail decide to get married in The Pigs' Wedding (U.S., 1990, 7 mins), they devise a clever way of helping all their mud-covered guests dress for the occasion. Based on a Chinese legend, Monkeys Fish the Moon (China, 1981, 11 mins) follows a group of precocious primates as they chase after the full moon, ultimately trapping it in a pool of water. And in The Mole in the Desert (Czechoslovakia, 1975, 7 mins) a curious mole makes friends with many desert animals after discovering a way to reach water that is hidden under the dunes. - Joanne Parsont, Curator of Children's Programs
