Recommended for ages 4+. Forty-Nine Theodore Square is home to the Bosworths and the Bumbles, two families of British bears living at the turn of the century in the stop-motion animated series The Upstairs Downstairs Bears by John Ellis, based on the bestselling books by Carol Lawson. When Barker Bumble decides to try out his green thumb in "An Abundance of Peas" (U.K., 2001, 9 mins), the bears learn all about gardening and creative pea cuisine. In "Bears Who Go Bump in the Night" (U.K., 2001, 9 mins), everyone goes in search of the strange noises that roused them from their beds - what could be making those clinking and clunking sounds in the dark? When young Eddy's family moves to a new home, his teddy bear gets lost along the way in Eddy & the Bear (U.K., 2001, 25 mins) by Tony Collingwood. In his quest to find his missing companion, Eddy stumbles upon a surprising new friendship: a very silly boy and a very silly bear make quite a pair! The fourth installment in the popular series by Canadian animator Co Hoedeman, Ludovic: Magic in the Air (Canada, 2002, 12 mins), marks the return of the cuddly young teddy bear with a heart of gold. This magical tale follows Ludovic to the playground, where he makes a new friend but also encounters a bully. - Joanne Parsont, Curator, Youth Programs
