5th Annual Judah L. Magnes Museum Jewish Video Competition Awards Screening

After five years, the number of excellent videoworks in the Judah L. Magnes Museum's Jewish Video Competition is continuing proof of the commitment of artists and activists who work in this electronic medium. Video serves as both an aesthetically expressive tool and a practical mechanism for rendering the images of a culture. Unlike many festivals, the Jewish Video Competition also has an archival component. The Magnes Museum's intention is to keep and protect as many of these works as possible, serving as a video respository for future viewers and generations. This year, to acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the State of Israel, special prizes are being awarded to Israeli artists and documentarians working in the medium. Also new to this year's Jewish Video Competition, the winning tapes will be available for viewing at the Magnes Museum throughout the summer, beginning June 7th, during regular gallery hours.
