After the Thin Man is one of those rare sequels which is as good as its original, this due largely to the "full MGM treatment" given the second film following the unexpected success of the first. Based again on an original story by Dashiell Hammett, After the Thin Man is set in San Francisco, where Nick and Nora discover homicide within the domicile of Nora's Nob Hill family. Among an excellent cast of menacing suspects is none other than Jimmy Stewart, "calm and possessed until the blow-off when he does his best work" (N.Y. Times).
