Alam and Manik Khan with Nilan Chaudhuri

Alam Khan (sarod), accompanied by Manik Khan (sarod) with tabla drummer Nilan Chaudhuri.

Alam and Manik are sons of the legendary sarode maestro Ali Akbar Khan, who first came to teach in California in 1965. The Ali Akbar College of Music, now in San Rafael, was established in 1967. Alam Khan accompanied his father on stage from 1996 to 2006, at prestigious music festivals and concerts in North America, Europe, and India. Manik Khan, the youngest son on Ali Akbar Khan, started his training on the sarod at the age of thirteen. With his brother Alam, he is teaching at the Ali Akbar College of Music to preserve the family's legacy, which dates back to the court of Emperor Akbar in the sixteenth century.

Nilan Chaudhuri, son of famed tabla player Swapan Chaudhuri and a disciple of Ali Akbar Khan, received his first lesson from his father at the age of five. Nilan continues to perform as tabla soloist and accompanist, and teaches at the Ali Akbar College of Music.
