Alternative Requirements 1999: Young Artists of the Bay Area
Tonight we honor the achievements of local film and video makers with a program of recent student works chosen for their experimental nature and for their capacity to expand the possibilities of visual expression. The show explores a wonderful diversity of themes and visual styles, from animation (What Time Is It, Blocked, Proposition on Motion, Bug Jar, We Stole 3 Bikes...) to visual meditation (Les Méduses, Emery, Untitled); from humor (Sabrosona) to paranoia (The Night Before), as well as fearlessly confronting provocative and sometimes disturbing subject matter (Blood, Jump, Flesh & Blood). The program features works from Academy of Art College, California College of Arts and Crafts, Mills College, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco State University, and UC Berkeley. The screening is part of an internship program offered by the UC Berkeley Film Studies Department and the Pacific Film Archive. Thanks to all who submitted work.-Maria J. ChavezCurated by UC Berkeley Film and Mass Communication major Maria J. Chavez and recent graduates Joyce L. Lee (English) and Steve Sun (Film).
