Alternative Requirements 2000: Works from Bay Area Film and Video Schools

This annual program celebrates experimental films and videos made by students in the Bay Area. These unique works meditate on, provoke questions about, and help to expand the boundaries of the film medium. The show highlights work in numerous formats (16mm, Super 8, MDV, Digital Video, BetaSP, and VHS), experimental styles (documentary, narrative, abstract, found-footage), and subject matter (death, love, kinship). Tonight also includes a Q&A discussion with the artists.This year's selected works come from students attending California College of Arts and Crafts, De Anza College, Saint Mary's College, San Francisco Art Institute, San Francisco State University, and University of California, Berkeley.Curated by Jennifer Ammann, Jill Meredith Borut, Huy Chau, Natalia Fidelholtz, Chris Gridley, Kari Hattner, Oscar Huerta, Justin Maradiegue, Dennise Moon, Rebecca Payne, Lola Popovac, Samuel Tomfohr, Jessica Tscha, and Marvella Villaseñor, with the asssistance of Tania Haddad. This program is part of a curatorial internship offered by PFA and the UC Berkeley Film Studies Program.
