Anything Can Happen
Fearless women cops, ruthless gang lords, legendary hit men, and a clueless advertising copywriter collide in this entertaining send-up of the clichés of both Bollywood and Hollywood cinema, made in tribute to the Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Beat Takeshi, and India's Ramgopal Varma. Tossed onto the street after arguing with his policewoman lover, drunken adman Arshad accidentally finds himself in a shootout that ends (of course) with him saving the life of a gunman. The two become friends (of course), and soon Arshad enters a world of rubouts and shakedowns, all the while trying to avoid not only the fiery gaze of his advertising boss, but also the gunman's own boss, whose suspicions of Arshad are growing by the minute. Hyper-reflexive (its opening credits blithely announce, “This story has been plagiarized from many films”), Anything Can Happen plays as a tongue-in-cheek valentine to narrative excess worldwide, where shards of past stories drawn from various traditions and nations are combined.
