Arise My Love
Career-girl comedy mixes with romantic adventure in this Leisen film, written by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett, set during the first months of World War II in Europe. Claudette Colbert plays a journalist determined to move from fashion page to front page. She helps an American flyer (Ray Milland) escape from a Spanish military prison, where he has been kept under threat of the death penalty after the Civil War. British critic Ian Christie notes, "Despite lip-service to neutrality, the film is blatantly anti-isolationist and strikingly successful in reconciling its journalistic dimension with a complex, adult relationship."
