Billion Dollar Brain

No one should believe this third installment in the Harry Palmer series: a Texas millionaire wants to invade a foreign country using his “private” army. It also has something to do with sowing the seeds of democracy and germ warfare, except this time they're our germs. Palmer, that great reluctant spy played with nonchalant hiposity by Michael Caine, has retired from the spook game, but he still has to pay the rent, so off he goes to Helsinki as a courier, safeguarding a canister of mysterious eggs. Palmer finds himself in the midst of an espionage omelet, fully scrambled with eggheads from MI5 and the CIA. Director Russell displays his signature flair for excess, piling one bilious brigand upon another, including the riotous ex-CIA operative Newbigin (Karl Malden) who, like our man in Havana, makes a living selling false info. But our Texas millionaire would never fall for that. Would he?
