Based on the William Farley novel and brought to life with stunning cinematography, this tale of the realtionship between a boy and a wild Arabian stallion "may be the greatest children's movie ever made," according to Pauline Kael. While traveling with his father on a ship, young Alec Ramsey is fascinated by a majestic wild horse that is brouhgt on board. A treacherous storm sinks the ship, and only Alec and The Black survive, living together on a desert island where Alec persists at tamming the horse. After they are rescued and return home, Alec meets a veteran horse trainer, beautifully played by Mickey Rooney, and together they train The Black to race against the fastest horses in the world.
