The second of two programs presented this weekend by Los Angeles-based jazz-film archivist Mark Cantor (see also April 26). “This afternoon's selection offers a departure from past jazz programs, as we feature film appearances by some of the greatest names in the blues, rhythm and blues, rockabilly and western-swing field. From the 1940s we will see such well known artists as Spade Cooley, Merle Travis, Big Bill Broonzy, Louis Jordan and Roy Milton. Music from the 1950s will also be highlighted, and we will share films with appearances by Bob Wills, Carl Perkins, Big Joe Turner, The Clovers, and many others.” Mark Cantor
