Borderlands and The Unwanted
“Borderlands is a contemporary portrayal of the immigration story along the U.S.-Mexico border. It is a film about people and how their lives are affected by the daily push and pull of immigration on both sides of the international border. Rather than focusing merely on the Border Patrol, the film steps back a few paces from the the ‘battlefield' itself and quietly explores the circumstances of individuals: men, women and children who for reason of poverty, ambition...adventure, find themselves living on the edge of Mexico's ever swelling northern frontier.... What emerges from these portraits is the remarkable determination of these people to provide for themselves and their families, and the degree of hardship they are willing to bear. Borderlands also examines the complex interrelationships between border cities; commerce, labor and industry; and on the personal side, family ties and friendship.” --Richard Soto
