The Bride Talks in Her Sleep (Hanayome no Negoto)
"Kinuyo Tanaka (then 23 years old), plays a bride whose newly-wed bliss is disrupted by an invasion of her husband's old school chums, who have come to free-load off their more successful pal. The situations and the cast of characters, even the repertory company of actors, are similar to those of Ozu's college comedies. The reason is that Shochiku's president Shiro Kido carefully controlled what sort of stories his directors would film, sending down many of his own treatments for reworking by staff writers. His pronounced fondness for middle-class situation comedy is thus evident in scores of Shochiku films, whose most proficient directors, such as Ozu and here Gosho, really made something of them. Bride was Shochiku's New Year release for 1933." David Owens
