Burnt Bridge (Verbrande Brug)

Burnt Bridge is an “unremittingly vulgar” story of love and hatred, told with boisterous dialogue and imagery. It concerns two ill matched couples brought together in a spot called Burnt Bridge at the time of the annual fair. Luis and Lola set up Lola's tent, “The Fortune Teller.” In the corner of the little square, in the shadow of the bridge, is “The Key,” a coffee house owned by Charles and his wife Monique. It seems Monique and Luis had been lovers, and from that union was born a little girl, now eight years old and adopted by Charles. Monique wants Luis back. So does Lola. Charles becomes the tool of revenge.
