Despite its race-course background, this is essentially a suspense-drama rather than a thriller, with a sportsman's honor providing the key plotline. Such a story probably meant more in the earlier thirties version (Bachelor's Folly, 1932) when Herbert Marshall played the role; a lack of interest in honor (plus a lack of major star names) in the 1950s kept the film out of U.S. release, but it's an enjoyable and satisfying piece, a nice counterbalance to the pre-Hammer gore of its companion feature.
