Capricious Summer
Preceded by short: A Boring Afternoon (Ivan Passer, Czechoslovakia, 1965). (Fádní odpoledne). With the only two films he made before leaving Czechoslovakia for the West-the short film A Boring Afternoon and Intimate Lighting-Ivan Passer defined and epitomized the Czech New Wave. "Jaroslav Bo?cek has described Passer's talent as the ability to create 'a plurality of happening.' The number of actions surrounding a person, into which he enters either actively or passively, enables the juming of sudden sparks, which become the flowers of everyday life, its poetry and humor.'" (Peter Hames, The Czechoslovak New Wave) A Boring Afternoon is based on the same author, Bohumil Hrabal, as is tonight's co-feature Cutting It Short.
