From the Cinema of Attractions to Narrative Illusionism

This program showcases the wonders of early cinema and traces the beginnings of film narrative. Films include 35mm archival prints of Edwin S. Porter's Life of an American Fireman (1903), depicting the rescue of a family from a burning building, and Dream of a Rarebit Fiend (1906), based on Winsor McCay's mind-bending comic strip, along with a sampling of marvelous trick films by Georges Méliès.
