Circle of Danger
"The theme of the World War II veteran tracking down the killer of his wife/best friend/brother was a popular one in the postwar period, serving Alan Ladd, Dick Powell, Humphrey Bogart and others well. In this British variant, from a story by Philip MacDonald, Ray Milland takes over, but the stress is on characterization and intrigue rather than on melodrama and revenge. If Berlin Express (1948) had been Jacques Tourneur's most Langian film, then this one is his most Hitchcockian." William K. Everson
