This ambitious epic chronicles the Iraqi struggle for independence against the British occupying forces in the 1920s. Oliver Reed portrays the British leader while Ghazi Al'Tickreety portrays Dari Mahmud, one of the leaders of the uprising who gave his life for the cause, and whose story this really is. Michael Webb of the American Film Institute notes that the British “are treated with surprising generosity, and the film is even-handed in its portrayal of the revolutionaries and of the moderates who accepted the British-nominated King.” Variety's Ron Holloway reports that “the action scenes are well handled.... Iraqi cinema is maturing year by year, and this film offers a strong prognosis of things to come at the well-geared Baghdad studios.”
