Comrade X

“Trying to capitalize on the success of Ninotchka, MGM cranked out Comrade X. While Gable is no Melvyn Douglas and Hedy Lamarr--as a glum Russian streetcar conductor--is a long shot from Greta Garbo, this film displays all the vitality and charm of Gable's other MGM hits. He's of course the plucky, boisterous and omnicompetent adventurer. And Hedy even casts the illusion that she is acting. The light comedy of it all doesn't get in the way of Clark's leading the film to its climax--a large scale tank chase. Has there ever been anyone who hasn't enjoyed this film?” --Diane Gysbers
