Cry Danger and The Battle of Midway
35mm Technicolor Nitrate Print:
The Battle of Midway
Directed by John Ford and edited by Robert Parrish, this color short made for the U.S. Navy graphically records the effects of falling bombs to capture the terror of battle, but just as skillfully diffuses the tension in several very humorous sequences with the native “gooney birds.” Filmed in 16mm, the film was blown up to 35mm Technicolor for theatrical release and subsequently won an Academy Award for Best Documentary in 1942.
