Trnka's first puppet feature imaginatively employed simple wood-cut figures to illustrate traditional Czech folk customs and celebrations as seen in villages throughout the year, set to Czech folk songs and against a backdrop of beautifully observed seasonal landscapes. One of his own favorite films, it's a charming work that is perfect for all ages.
