Dahab
The precocious child star Fayruz was Egypt's answer to Shirley Temple; from a performing family, she sang and danced in an astonishingly adult manner. In the heartwarming Dahab, she plays the fruit of a common-law marriage between a rich man and his serving girl. Abandoned on the street, she is found by a desperately poor musician who takes pity on her and raises her as his own. She and her foster father/sidekick become great favorites with the public. The veteran cast includes director Wagdi, as the musician; rising star (and future film producer) Magda; and the amazingly rubber-faced Ismail Yasin, a Jerry Lewis-like comedian who retains enormous popularity to this day.
