The Dark Side of the Moon (Manden i manen)
"'A great number of people have destroyed their lives in the name of love. This is often described and judged as a 'crime of passion.' But this seems a very simplistic explanation... I have often wondered how these men could again enter and live a normal life.' (Erik Clausen) In prison, John's only link to the world outside is a snapshot of his wife and child. For 16 years this memento supports a tenuous fantasy that the reality of his release shatters. John quickly discovers the ex-con's freedom is an existence devoid of family, friends, even familiar routines. Taking a menial job washing dishes in a shabby restaurant, his only contact is with other fringe-dwellers, namely a Turkish family and a transvestite singer. And when his now-married daughter rebuffs him, John (played with quiet strength by Peter Thiel) retreats further into lonely anonymity. It is only when his 'freedom' becomes threatened that John finally catapults out of his self-imposed isolation. 1986 Bodil Award-Best Danish Feature Film." S.F. Int'l Film Festival
